A Week in Cornwall

Hello!
I haven't blogged in forever, have I? Here's a long overdue post about my recent holiday to Cornwall. I stayed for one week in the North of Cornwall, in a tiny little cottage right on the coast, we had wonderful sea views from the windows, and it took just a couple of minutes to walk to the cliffs.

We went into Tintagel and visited the castle, built in the 1200s, which is almost entirely in ruins now, but it was supposedly the site of  King Arthur's conception. It was right on the top if the cliff, so there were a lot of stairs to climb. :( The views of the sea and countryside from the top were incredible, though!

Also in Tintagel was the Arthurian Centre. The first part of the centre was a room full of paintings of various scenes from the Arthurian legends, where we sat and listened to a reading of the story of King Arthur. There was an amazing throne that I sat in, but the picture my Mum took was blurry. ;-; The next part of the centre was a hall with stained glass windows telling the stories of the Knights of the Round table and other interesting things.

My favourite day of the holiday was a visit to a country house called Lanhydrock. I love looking around country houses, and Lanhydrock was one of the best I've ever seen. There were over fifty rooms available to look at, including servant's quarters and kitchens which is quite unusual for country houses, where the only rooms open are the rooms once inhabited by the family. The gardens were beautiful too, not just formal gardens, but acres and acres of parkland. There was a lovely little church on the grounds, and a tiny cottage in the gardens.

My Downton Abbey hair idea & The Princess of Montpensier

Just a quick silly post today because I am very aware of the fact that I haven't posted in a while.

1. Hooray for Lady Mary hair! Click here to watch the video.

2. I just watched The Princess of Montpensier, as I'm supposed to be reviewing a French film for my speaking exam.
My thoughts while watching it:
- What the heck is this war, I am confused already
- What the heck are they saying?!
- Pretty dresses!
- Oh hello Gaspard Ulliel.
- No, I wanted the opposite of this!!!!
- Go away war, I'm not interested in you!
- No no no no no no NO!
- I am so bad at French, what are they SAYING???
- Holy karp, Gaspard Ulliel in eyeliner.
- Stupid character, I hate you and your stupid man-earring
- And I hate this stupid old man too
- Hooray he's dead!!
- No, I don't want that
- Just marry Gaspard Ulliel, he's pretty.
- No, you silly wench, don't do that
- No
- NO
- FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
- NOO
- I WANTED THE OPPOSITE OF THIS!!!!

...I'll let you be the judge of how much I enjoyed that film.

A day spent admiring the work of Edward Ardizzone

Today I went to the local art gallery to see an Edward Ardizzone exhibition. My copy of 'A Child's Christmas in Wales' by my dearly beloved Dylan Thomas is illustrated by Ardizzone. Although my own artwork is nothing to get excited about, I greatly enjoy it. My own style is very similar to his illustrations, although not quite so good unfortunately ;-) My favourite pieces of the exhibition were the illustrations from a book about a cat called Mackenzie, and illustrations from a book called 'The Witch Family'. I had a really wonderful time.

Broken Resolutions & A Stack of Books

Hello,
Just a small little post to get back into the habit of blogging again!

Although my #1 New Years Resolution was 'Don't buy books for the sake of buying books, you have a stack of unread books already', I'm ashamed to say that I have bought many, many books already this year!
When I was in the charity bookshop a few days ago, I purchased:
  • Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell
  • The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Anne Bronte
  • Howard's End, E M Forster
  • The Return of Sherlock Holmes, A C Doyle

When I was in the city library last week, I bought ex-shelf copies of:
  • Frankenstein, Mary Shelley
  • A Feast for Crows, George RR Martin
When I was in the bookshop in town I bought:
  • One Day, David Nicholls
  • The Secret History, Donna Tartt
  • Stardust, Neil Gaiman
And it's only the 20th of January! Hey, there are worse things I could be spending my money on, right?!

                               Love,
Amy x

I'm back!

Hello,
After deleting all of my posts a while ago, I've decided to start using this blog again. This time around, however, I'll be talking about more personal things than before. Now it will be more like a journal!
                                   Love,
